As an English major and decidedly monolingual person--despite my having taken, at various times, Chinese, French, Japanese and even Czech language classes!--to me, English translation is an interesting, impressive and remarkable profession. I'm definitely going to follow this...column (for lack of a better word) and I look forward to reading her insights into the manga translation industry!
Oh! And another interesting "column" that also started recently is "Revolutionary Boy Tatara" (doesn't that make you think of Basara?) by Peter Tatara, assistant Marketing Manager at Central Park Media in New York. I'm sure he's also going to offer a lot of interesting insights into the anime industry! On a personal note, I am both amazed and dismayed to realize that he's the same age as me--22! Although I feel blessed to be able to pursue a career in a profession that I am passionate about and that I believe is necessary, valuable and rewarding--teaching--reading Peter's story makes me wonder what might've been if I'd been willing to pursue my anime/manga passion further.
