No More Paypal, and Russell Peters

I decided to close my Paypal. Even though it's extremely convenient for online, especially eBay, purchases, after reading through some of the info on paypalsucks.com, I thought it'd be a good idea. I realize that Paypal is more problematic for sellers/businesses or people who link it to accounts, rather than just using it for credit card payments, but nonetheless, I didn't want to support a company that has such bad business practices. Also, this is one of the first points listed on the paypalsucks.com site, and it's pretty scary, when you think about it:

1. According to PayPal accepting their ToS (Terms of Service) in effect means you waive your rights to credit card consumer protection laws if you want to use their service, and that you may not issue a chargeback for unauthorized use of your credit card and PayPal account, or if you do, then they have the right to limit your account. Is this legal? We don't know. But it's how Paypal operates.

I think overall the sense I got from the website is that Paypal works under the assumption that whenever anything goes wrong or is suspicious, regardless of who's really to blame, you're treated as if you're at fault, and you'll have a heck of a time getting things straightened out once that happens.

Besides, I realized that if I didn't have a Paypal account, I'd probably do a heck of a lot less eBaying, since it's rather inconvenient to have to get money orders for everything. =P So now I not only feel a bit more secure about my online accounts, but hopefully I'll start spending a bit less as well!!

In other news, I went to Russell Peters' show at Yuk Yuk's (Mississauga) and it was SO hilarious!! My face is sore from laughing so much!! It was amazing!! We were there pretty early--7:00pm for the 8:30pm show--so we were the second group in and ended up sitting right next to the stage. It was great. I'm sure he appreciated it too, since he was able to use our presence as a starting point for his Chinese/China jokes.

He asked us how we all knew each other, and after we answered "church," he asked which denomination...Well, he had a ball with the whole "Chinese Baptist" idea--it really does seem like an oxymoron to anyone who isn't. Anyway, most of his jokes can't really be translated properly into text, so I'm not going to try, but I just wanted to say that Sarah actually got him to sign my church bulletin, and he wrote: "God forgive me! - Russell Peters" which is so cool!!

We're now trying to decide what to do with the bulletin--maybe framing it and putting it on the WAY board? =P
