Well, for reasons still unknown to me, I accepted Steph's invitation to accompany her, her Ottawa friend Kate, and Kate's boyfriend Al to see "The Prince & Me". I really don't know why I felt like going when I knew it wasn't my type of movie at all. Yes, the movie was exactly what you would expect it to be like from the title: a sappy romance that used just about every genre cliché it could work in. The characters were all stock characters, and the plot was completely predictable.
The best part of the movie for me was recognizing U of T's E.J. Pratt library, and Queen's Park in one of the scenes.
Okay, so it wasn't a completely awful film, but I don't think I'd ever feel a desire to watch it again either. Basically it was only the acting that raised it from a complete waste of time to a mediocre movie. I quite enjoyed the character of the roommate, and Julia Stiles wasn't all that bad either.
Of course, to be fair, I should mention that Steph and Kate really seemed to love the thing--which just goes to show that Steph and I don't have compatible movie tastes at all. So yes, unless you're the type of person who really loves every and any sappy romance flick, or who thinks Gigli was a good movie, &etc., you don't want to waste your money on The Prince & Me. If you really feel you should watch it, at least wait until it comes out on rental, or even better, wait 'til it gets played on cable.
