For the past three years I've gone into work at 8am, but for some reason this year I've been asked to come in at 7:30am!!! I'm sure most of you know this already, but I am SO not a morning person!! @_@ I thought waking up for a nine o'clock class once a week was bad, but now I'm going to be up before 6am five days a week, for the entire summer! It's madness!
Beyond that, this summer is feeling very not restful so far. This week has been and will be very busy. Yesterday I had my belated birthday with some friends downtown (it was very fun!), today I'm tutoring, Thursday I've got a softball meeting, Friday and Saturday are Anime North, and Sunday after church there's a baptism service. With the exception of Anime North (I'll explain later), most of the stuff is enjoyable, and not just a chore, but yeah, I wish I had some more time to just laze around. Or even better, to clean my room!! That's why I'm so glad it's Victoria Day this Monday! Hopefully I'll be able to finally start cleaning my room! (I'm too realistic to expect that I'll actually finish cleaning it. =P)
Anyway, I bet it sounds really strange that the only thing I'm not looking forward to for this week is an anime convention, doesn't it? Well, I don't know how good of an explanation this is, but I've discovered that I'm not a convention person at all. It probably has something to do with my anti-socialness, but I'd rather sit in front of the tv on my own or with some friends and watch some anime than to go to a convention and share in the anime appreciation with thousands of other people. Also the fact that I've never really figured out what to do at convention probably has something to do with my lack of appreciation for the whole atmosphere. I spend most of my time in the dealer's room and the artist alley, so obviously I don't have much experience in the full range of what a convention can offer. Last year was the first time I actually checked out some of the smaller rooms/events. The Who Wants to Be a Millionaire style anime game was pretty interesting, I must admit.
If you're wondering why I'm spending two days at a convention when I don't even like conventions, well, the reason is I'm stupid and haven't yet learned how to say no. I really thought I would get out of the convention this year because the department that I helped out in last year was pretty disorganized and no one had contacted me, but then someone from Utarpa asked me if I'd rather stay with media or join programming. Since I'm such a sap, I didn't just say that I'd rather do neither, but chose the lesser of two evils and went with programming. At least this year I'm pretty sure I'm going to be doing stuff, rather than just tagging along with K-Max Media (although the guys were really nice and all). Hopefully it won't be as bad of an experience if I actually feel useful. Still, I'm going to have to wake up early to drive there on Saturday, and spend money on parking. xP Next year I really MUST learn to say no! Sheesh. Who knew I was such a wuss?
