I just got totally rocked on my Japanese exam. (ToT) Bye-bye any hope of getting a 90 in that course now--I'll be lucky if I can even keep an 80. And it wasn't just me and a lack of studying, it was the exam! You know you've got serious problems when well over 80% of the people stay to the bitter end and pretty much everyone you talk to is commenting on how bloody long the thing was!
Honestly, I'm not one to complain about exams. If I know I did poorly because I didn't study enough, I'll admit that it was a fair exam, but this just wasn't. The thing was 17 pages long, and the first 7 or 8 or so pages were all reading comprehension! I was lucky that I left it to the end, because some people said it took them about an hour. Since I was pressed for time I zipped through it in about half that. Our sensei recommended leaving 30 minutes for the sakubun (essay) portion, which I did, but that really wasn't enough time.
Okay, part of that was my own fault. I was planning on writing about my family, but I completely blanked out on the kanji for "zoku" (as in "kazoku" or "family"), so I had to switch to a topic that I couldn't write as easily about. I ended up writing about "my favourite sport" but I left about five or six lanes blank because I ran out of time, meaning that I was about forty to sixty characters short. And the sakubun portion is 50/400 marks!!
Argh. I have the most humonguous headache after that exam. I'm so glad I wasn't planning on caring about my Major British Writers exam to begin with, because that exam has left me totally discouraged and unmotivated for the exam anyway. At least I've got tonight to relax and recover. One of my friends in the course has an exam tomorrow, and I know I'd find it really hard to concentrate on studying right now if I was her.
Man. I mean, I'm pretty sure I'm in no danger of falling below 70 in the course, so I can definitely take the 200-series next year if I can get a space, but geez, I worked SO hard for that course, and I really wanted as high of an A as I could possibly get! And I honestly don't think I could have done much to do better on that exam. It's so unfair!
