Well, I've discovered that cons are a lot more fun when you've got friends to just sit and hang out with. As usual I didn't really do anything at the con today except for checking out the artist alley and dealer's room, but again, thanks to the presence of friends, it was a bad experience.
Heh. I wasn't supposed to buy too much, but I bought a Never Knew picture from Borammy! ^_^ I was really excited to meet a webcomic artist in person (especially one whose work I greatly enjoy) but unfortunately my lack of social skills struck again, and I didn't say anything more than "Could I get that Never Knew picture?" ^^;; I felt like such an idiot!! Anyway, I'm very happy with my picture, and was glad to have been able to support an artist whose work I've enjoyed for so long for free! I also bought two prints from Studio Qube. I got two "angel" prints because they caught my eye with their simplicity and prettiness!! I also got a free print from my friend's friends' studio! Probably tomorrow I'm going to buy one of their comic books, and maybe some other prints as well. I really enjoy supporting artists' original works! Yes, this year, no fan art for me!!
Oh, and even though I don't have much money, I ended up buying two cds: the Best of Hikaru no Go and L'arc en ciel's Clicked 13 Best! I just couldn't resist! I went in looking for a HnG cd, and I've been wanting the L'arc en ciel ever since I heard about it...Luckily (or unluckily, for my wallet) they took credit card, otherwise there's no way I would've been able to afford them! =P I'm not getting paid until the last week of May, so my bank account is woefully depleted right now. At least I refrained from buying dvds or graphic novels, which I can buy anytime, no rush. I REALLY REALLY wanted to buy the HnG artbook, but it's $107, and even though I can somehow justify two cds that add up to almost that much, I couldn't justify the one book. @_@ Poor logic. I should've asked Rita whether or not they accept credit card. If they do take it, well, I think I'm going to buy it tomorrow...NO!!! MUST resist temptation! I'm dangerously close to being overextended just with my regular dvd and graphic novel purchases as is, I can't afford to add an extra $200 (cds AND art book) on top of that! But I REALLY REALLY want it!! ARGH!!! The indecision. Hopefully the dang thing'll be gone tomorrow, or they won't accept credit cards and I'll be saved! ^^;; I really have little self control.
Another thing that was better about the con this year is that I actually have something to do! It's not a lot, but I go around at the beginning and end of panels and make sure that everything's okay and sign vouchers for the panelists, to confirm that they did in fact show up to the panel (and therefore deserve the little goodies they get at the end).
I also took TWO pictures! Got one Dark Chii, and SAI!!! ^__^ Hopefully I'll see some friends tomorrow and will be able to get their pictures too. =P
So that was day one of Anime North. I still think I'm going to get out next year, but maybe if they could get Fred Gallagher (of MegaTokyo fame) to do a panel, I'd come. I really should suggest that to Dave...
