Hmmm...So not everything that I watch turns out to be an instant favourite, I guess. I borrowed a disc with three episodes of Petite Princess Yucie (from Gainax, of all people) and one episode of Ask Dr. Rin! on it, and, well... (^_^;;?
They weren't awful series, but I wouldn't exactly say they were that great either. Let's see, maybe brief summaries? Okay!
Petite Princess Yucie is the story of a girl who is seventeen, but for some reason can't age beyond a ten year old body. When Yucie hears that the Queen is searching for candidates to be the Platinum Princess, she's immediately interested. The Platinum Princess gets to wear the Eternal Tiara, which has the power to grant the wearer one wish, but the Tiara can only be worn by a special person with a pure heart. Only one such person is born in a thousand years (or something like that). Naturally Yucie becomes a candidate, but she must go through special princess training to develop her heart before she can try to become the Platinum Princess and make her wish come true.
Ask Dr. Rin! is about a girl named Meirin who has had special "Feng Shui" powers since she was very young. To develop her skill, she and her brother secretly made a website called "Ask Dr. Rin" to test out her predictive powers. Her father, who is also a Feng Shui master considers Dr. Rin a rival, and doesn't even suspect that his nemesis is his own daughter! Anyway, Meirin is interested in Asuka, a boy she's known since she was a child. Unfortunately, he doesn't seem to return her feelings. Then there's a mysterious boy who knows Dr. Rin's true identity and seem intent on making Meirin his own.
If they sound kind of goofy, it's because they are. (~_~;) Of the two, though, Petite Princess Yucie was definitely the better. The plot, from what I've seen so far, is entirely predictable, and the characters haven't exactly developed any depth yet, but the animation isn't too bad and it's kind of a nice light fluffy series. Ask Dr. Rin, though... Maybe it's because of my Chinese background, but I can't seem to get past the whole "Feng Shui powers" thing. I could be wrong, but I never thought Feng Shui was so specific that you could tell someone to wear something orange for good luck on a particular day, or something. Then again, I've only seen one episode, so it might not be that bad.
Guess it's a good thing I didn't get hooked on more series. My essays aren't anywhere near closer to being finished, and after watching some of the Hikaru no Go anime episodes, I started re-reading the HnG manga!! (@_@) Ultimate procrastinator, that I am! No willpower, whatsoever!
