Man, on Friday (yeah, I'm only three days behind! ^^;;) I was watching some of the Canada Skate, or whatever it's called competition, and it was so sad!! Sad pathetic sad, not sad boohoo. Most of the men that I saw (it was men's and pairs' that day) fell! And not just once during their short performance, either, but multiple times! A lot of them flubbed the quads, and a bunch even messed up triples!
Canadian figure skating is so pathetic now!! I'm glad I stopped watching sometime while Stojko (sp?) was still at his peak, because this is just too depressing. So few of them could even do their technical elements properly/consistently, so how are we supposed to compete on an international level?
Boy do I ever miss Browning and Stojko. I didn't like Stojko all that much at first because I was a huge Browning fan, and his style was just so far from the norm, but Stojko kind of grew on me after a while. Sure, he might not have been really graceful (it's rather hard when you're a more thickset, stumpy skater) but he was an athlete. I still remember that long performance when he became the first skater to successfully complete a quad-triple combo--it was awesome.
These new guys, though, they can't jump for beans. And I didn't see it (thank goodness!) but apparently one of the men even tripped on his footwork!! Not a jump, plain old footwork!! Cheh. Thank goodness Canada still has hockey! =Þ
