It's so great!! If you can pick it up, I'd highly recommend it! The story is based on the old Chinese zodiac myth and how the rat tricked the cat (a slightly different version of the tale than the one Jen-san uses in Strings of Fate, though). See, the Sohma family is cursed so that whenever they are embraced by a member of the opposite sex, they turn into animals from the zodiac--plus the cat. Geh. Sorry, I'm horrible at plot summaries, but take my word for it, it's really good! Funny and sweet. ^_^
I wasn't actually planning on picking up the series, but I got a free sampler dvd from the person I usually buy anime and manga from that had the first two episodes, dubbed. As soon as I started watching it I knew I had to pick it up. Thank goodness Funimation decided to release the series on four discs of six episodes each!! I think I'd be tempted to pick up stuff from them simply because they have the good sense to put a higher episode count on each disc! It drive me nuts when companies put only three episodes on a disc and charge $45 CDN for it (Fruits Basket was $50 for twice as many episodes!)--think Viz with Ayashi no Ceres, X TV, and Inu Yasha.
Anyway, I mentioned that I got the sampler dvd for free right? Well actually, the person I buy from is really nice and she often gives me stuff for free, like a Hello Kitty address book, and most recently a free copy of Shonen Jump! ^_^ It makes me very glad that I buy almost all of my anime dvds and manga there, and always have, even when I could sometimes get it cheaper elsewhere. Oh, and I'm also glad that I started a tradition of baking her cookies for Christmas a few years ago.
Well, that's about it for me today. Go watch Fruits Basket!! Go, go, go!!! ^_^
