Golden Age of Anime?

Surveying all the titles that are currently being released, and the ones that are due to be released makes me wonder if future anime fans will look back on this time as a sort of golden age of anime in North America. I still remember the days when Sailor Moon and Dragonball were the only series most people recognized as Japanese animation. Eve a few years ago, it was only Sailor Moon, Dragonball and Pokémon!

Now we've witnessed theatrical releases of Princess Mononoke, Metropolis, and Spirited Away, as well as more limited theatrical screenings of Jin-Roh, the Escaflowne Movie, Spriggan &etc. Cartoon networks (mostly in the States) don't just stick to anime for younger audiences either, but play series like Cowboy Bebop and Outlaw Star (?). Ninety-five episode series like Rurouni Kenshin are licensed, released, and are sucessful too!

The manga industry has experienced enormous growth as well. Ranma 1/2 was probably one of the earliest series to be released in North America, and that started ages after the Japanese manga came out. Now we have series like Chobits and Angelic Layer, which are still released more slowly in North America, but the gap is getting a lot smaller. And Japanese mangakas are taking notice of their North American audiences as well. Masamune Shirow, for example, is planning on personally overseeing the flipping of Ghost in the Shell 2 for our domestic release, and plans on redoing any art that he isn't satisfied with during the (flipping) process.

It's amazing to see the growth of the international anime community. I can talk with fellow Otaku in England, Australia, Korea &etc. in forums, through blog rings and whatnot!

Anyway, sorry this was kind of a cop-out post, I've been pretty occupied with hockey lately, so it doesn't leave me much to talk about! Oh, except, has anyone seen Noir and .//hackSIGN? The limited edition first disc w/box sets look amazing, so I'm really tempted to buy them--if the series are worthwhile.
