Today I was supposed to get all my research done for my Japanese history essay. Did that happen? Not exactly. See, I got a bunch of books, skimmed most of them, skimmed a bunch of articles, and realized that I didn't have a clue as to what I want to write about. Big problem, considering that's how I usually do my research: I skim some materials, get a general feel for the topic, think up a rough thesis, then do research to see if the data supports my thesis and modify accordingly. Except that the topic that I chose is so weird I don't even know where to begin, or rather, I didn't.
After a couple of hours of skimming material and trying to think up a rough thesis, I decided to give it a break. I figured I had enough of a feeling for the topic, so I should just relax, let the information stew in my head, and hopefully a thesis would come to me. Sounds ridiculous, right? Well, I think it sort of worked, because partway through dinner I did actually get an idea for a thesis! Phew! Thank goodness, because I was really starting to worry that I had dug too deep a hole for myself by procrastinating this time.
Unfortunately the extended break from working has left me feeling too relaxed, so now I don't feel like doing any more work. =Þ
