Argh! Should I buy them or not?!? Here's the deal, Kodocha is shutting down at the end of October, but until then, they're offering a set of ten Kodomo no Omocha dvdr's (episodes 1-40) for $100 US. That's about $165 CDN, or $16.50 CDN per disc. Now, if I think of it that way, that's a really good price compared to normal licensed anime...BUT IT'S A FANSUB!!
How would I feel if I spent so much on the fansubs (even though it's actually a really good price, not that much more than regular tape fansubs, and it's higher quality) and then the series was licensed? I mean, I got Marmalade Boy thinking that the supposed music issue (was it really an issue? who knows...), the length, the genre, and the content of the series would prevent it from ever being licensed. Then, as soon as I finished buying all of the tapes and manga, Tokyopop announces that it's picked up the rights to Marmalade Boy. Since they've also got the rights to the Kodocha manga, who's to say that they won't try for the anime as well?
Logically I know that the length of the series (100+ eps), and the difficulty in translating it would be a deterrent to North American companies, but if they licensed Marmalade Boy, and Rurouni Kenshin (`95 eps), then Kodocha isn't as much of an impossibility as I thought it was, right?
It's also not a case of not having money. So far I've already earned half the amount I'd need, and I can get the other half by working for one day, but there are also a lot of other anime that I'm planning on buying, so should I really use my money on Kodocha instead of, say, nine graphic novels? And I do buy a heck load of graphic novels... Right now I'm collecting: Marmalade Boy, Kodocha, Love Hina, GTO, Mars, Paradise Kiss, Angelic Layer, Chobits, Wish, Peach Girl, Card Captor Sakura, X/1999, El-Hazard, Ranma 1/2, and Utena. Sure, the Viz titles (X/1999, El-Hazard, Ranma 1/2, Utena) don't come out too frequently, but I pick up at least five or six--maybe more--of the other (Tokyopop) titles monthly. Add on the dvds that I'm buying or planning on buying--X TV, Kare Kano, Marmalade Boy, Love Hina, Princess Nine, Escaflowne TV boxset--and you've got a picture of a girl with way too many expenses to match her practically non-existent income.
I think I need a part-time job. ^^;;
But this is a once in a lifetime opportunity!!! Argh! What should I do? What should I do?!? Please, offer your opinions/suggestions everyone, either on the enetation comment box or on my Tagboard! I'm quite evenly split, so some different perspectives would really help me to make my decision! Thanks!!
