Me Doing Work? Gasp!

Yes, it's sadly true! The reason I haven't been blogging as I should is because I've been doing schoolwork! (Okay, yesterday I had a house potluck to attend, and today I worked and went shopping, but other than that...) As I explained to my don, who was a bit confused as to why he'd never really seen or talked to me before, I've been doing the anti-social thing because my workload this year is actually quite heavy. I don't have engineering, or even life sci hours, but I've got a heck of a lot more work to do than last year!

The biggest time killer, I think, is my Japanese class. It's five hours a week (two hours of class, three hours of tutorials) and about five hours of homework as well! I haven't even learned all that much yet, just basic greetings (which I already knew from far too much anime), and forty-six sounds of hiragana. It's actually the hiragana which is causing me problems. I've kind of got the characters memorized, but it still takes me some time to match sound to character, and I still make a lot of mistakes. ^^;; I love the class though, and Komuro-Lee-sensei is great, so I've been putting a lot of extra energy into preparing for class and tutorials.

Apart from Japanese, I'm also taking "History of Modern Japan," "20th Century China," Romantic Poetry and Prose," and "Major British Writers." Of these, I think the "Romantic Poetry and Prose" class is going to be the most challenging. Not that it's an excessive amount of reading or anything, it's that I'm honestly having a bit of difficulty totally understanding the prof. It's like she sees so many extra layers and connections and significances in the works that I haven't got a clue about. It's both an exhilerating and frightening experience; I love feeling that my mind's being stretched, but I've never had problems analyzing and seeing the bigger picture in an English class before. Still, I'm rather proud that I'm willing to make the ten minute rush to a class that won't be easy, when I could have tried to switch to a more convenient, and probably easier class.

This is going to be another great year of learning, I predict. I think I'm really going to enjoy going to class, once I get back into the swing of things, and start getting enough sleep so I'm not dead tired for class. In terms of res, too, things are looking great. I don't forsee any major problems with chores, or noise levels, or guests this year--unlike last. =P One of my suitemates is even cleaner than I am, and I'm pretty anal about cleaning in res! (Not at home, though. ^^;;)

I do in fact get CBC in my room, even though it's a bit fuzzy, and you get some of the double picture thing. Can't wait! I've started my hockey scrapbook, although it's still pretty boring and ugly. ^^;; It doesn't help that my gluestick is really horrible, which makes working on the thing a big chore. Oops! I forgot, I'm supposed to talk about hockey in my other blog (where I've also posted, btw). Hope you'll excuse my lapse!

Anyway, seeing as I spent two hours doing grocery and other shopping--in heels--I'm pretty tired, so I'm off for now! Hopefully I'll get back into a daily blogging schedule again soon!
