Wow. It's sure been a busy weekend for me! Thursday night I went to see Macbeth in the Hart House Theatre--an excellent production, I might add! Solid acting, scenery, props, etc. etc., definitely not your average amateur production!
Then, today I went to see the first showing of "Spirited Away" at the Famous Players. ^_^ Great movie! Of course, I love pretty much everything that Miyazaki does, so... I was especially pleased that they left the original score intact! None of the adding extra songs and whatnot like Kiki's Delivery Service." Also, they didn't edit or cut anything, even though Miyazaki actually gave them permission to cut stuff to make it shorted! That really impresses me, and shows that they're really starting to listen to what fans want!! Good on them!
Actually, "Spirited Away" was a first for me, the first time that I went to see a movie on my own! It's not actually all that bad. I mean, I'm not good at reviewing movies, so unless it's a really thinky movie, it's not like I usually have a lot to say about a film afterwards anyway. (Whoa, sorry about the long and confusing sentence!) So yeah, it was a pretty good experience for me, and since people tend not to have the same flexibility of schedule that I have, I suspect that I'll be doing this more often this year.
In fact, I'm going to be kind of repeating the experience on Wednesday. I'm going to watch, get this, a play about hockey (by myself)! It's called Coaching Matters, and it's supposed to be pretty good--it was an audience favourite at the fringe fest last year, apparently. Anyway, it's a special preview, so I got 50% off of the regular admission price. Score! (Eh, unintentional pun, I assure you! ^^;;) I think it'll be cool! The only reason I found out about it was because I was flipping through the paper and I happened to see the ad (a picture of a pair of hockey skates) and stopped and flipped back to read it! Lucky, ne? I'm really glad I decided to get a subscription to The Star, because if I hadn't, not only would I be without the daily crossword, I would also have missed out on seeing this play! ^_^
Oh, and to continue on with my tale of a visual feast, my suitemates rented "Monsters Inc." today, so we watched it all together! What a great movie! Now everytime I hear "kitty" I'm going to think of it! I hope my parents picked up a copy, it's so worth it! We laughed so much! It was a good "suite bonding" thing, I'd say.
At any rate, after watching so much stuff in such a short period of time, my eyes are getting kind of tired, so I guess I'm done for today! (Oh, and when I say today I mean Friday, even though it's past midnight so it'll be listed as a Saturday post.) Later!
