Young and Old

Some family friends came over tonight for dinner, and to just, well, hang out I guess. It was pretty fun. We ate a lot, then walked to the nearby plaza to work some of the food off, and finally came back for some watermelon, and all the while, we were talking and laughing.

It was especially cool because when I said family friends, I meant family friends that are my parents' age, and I wouldn't have thought I'd be able to be one of the group, if you know what I mean.

Then too, I'm glad that I decided to be sociable today, because otherwise I would've missed out, and not even known it! There are many times that I can recall when, in similar circumstances, I would eat dinner then immediately retreat to my room to do my own thing. Sometimes I'd even just grab some food to eat in the kitchen while everyone else would be outside eating. As much as I cherish my solitude, and as much as I can understand my more anti-social moments, tonight made me remember that there should be balance in all things; I'd go nuts if I tried the social butterfly routine, but at the same time, if I allowed myself to retreat into a hermit-like state, I'd be pretty lonely, and I'd be losing out on a lot of great times.

At any rate, it was pretty fun hanging out with the parents today.
