Oh Canada

Well, Canada Day has almost finished, and I haven't really done anything to celebrate it. I did go out to a friend's place for dinner, but that was for a birthday party for her mom, not for Canada. I guess Canada Day isn't really a big deal to me; it's just a paid day off, which is nice. Then again, the weather today was just awful. You walk outside and the air's so thick you feel like you're going to suffocate--not exactly conducive to partying outdoors.

Still, I do love Canada, and I'm proud to be a Canadian. I just don't need a day to show off my patriotism; it's something that's more internalised, or, if it's shown outwardly, it's not "rah rah" or in your face. Sure my Canadianism is apparent in my preferences, my likes and dislikes, but if I didn't point it out, people probably wouldn't notice. I show my patriotism by liking Roots--the only name brand clothing I have a specific preference for; by buying books like "How to be a Canadian (Even if you already are one)," by Will Ferguson and Ian Ferguson; by listening to Barenaked Ladies, and Great Big Sea; and, of course, by loving hockey.

Actually, the time I felt the most Canadian was when the men's hockey Team Canada beat the US for the Olympic Gold in Salt Lake City. People have even suggested, since we don't have a holiday in February, that we should have a Hockey Day or something, and I think that'd be cool. =Þ I'd definitely celebrate it, too. ^_~

Ah well, since it is Canada Day, why don't you check out some of the blogs in the Blog Canada ring (on the left nav bar)? Speaking of rings, I finally got accepted into the Clamp Log ring!! It's especially cool since I think I got around three or four visits through the ring today! Oh, and I also added a link to my friend Dan's blog, passion + reason. Yep, his brother is Ben, of the brain drain fame. So check them both out if you haven't yet!!
