I read this phrase in a Christy Miller book (by Robin Jones Gunn) once, and have used it ever since! It was used to describe something that just worked out so perfectly, it must have been more than a coincidence, more than simple "fate"--a God thing. ^_^
Well, it's been a long time since I've actually thought of an event of occurence as a God thing, but, I thought of it today. See, my mom called around 4pm to tell me that she'd heard about a fire at Union station, and that, as a result of said fire, no trains were going out. So we agreed to both see if we could find out the actual situation, and then to come up with a plan of action--most likely involving the TTC from King Station, instead of Union--after that.
I changed the radio to 680 News and waited to hear something. Just as they started to talk about it, someone can in and started getting water from the cooler (which makes pretty loud gurgling sounds) and started talking to me as well. Consequently, all I heard was "Union" and "fire." I wanted to scream, but refrained since the person was and is really nice, and there's no way she could've known that I was waiting for that particular news bulletin. At any rate, just as I was attempting to bring up the 680 News website (our office computers are incredibly slow), my mom called to say that my dad was downtown, and that he had just called to say that he could pick us up.
Since I had been worried about my meeting appointment at quarter after seven (to watch MIB II with my friend), it was a relief to know that I had a very straightforward route home. Not that I really needed to worry about reaching the theatre before seven fifteen, as it wasn't really likely that I could be that late, even with the delays, but nonetheless, I had been a bit troubled, so hearing that I would be getting a ride was great. Even though the fire was dealt with so quickly, and the traffic was so bad that I could've gotten back at the same time (half an hour later than usual) taking the GO from Union, I still think it was an amazing God thing that the day there was a problem at the station, which could've led to a big delay, was the very same day my dad happened to be downtown and able to drive my mom and I home. It seems like a small thing, but it really made me happy to be able to recognize a God thing today.
