Well, I was up incredibly early (for me) at 5am today so that I could register for my courses right at 6am. I actually got into Japanese!!! ^_^ Woohoo! I checked last night and there were only 19 spaces left in one of the sections, and none in the other (my first choice, actually). So yes, I'm extremely happy that I managed to get in.
Knowing how few spaces were left to me, however, makes me even more irritated at the university's suckiness when it comes to language courses, particularly East Asian language courses. As I mentioned months ago, when I first found out the timetable for next year, I find it absolutely idiotic that the university has reduced the number of lecture sections from three to two for Japanese I this year, when, as far as I've heard, the demand is the same, if not greater, this year!! I mean, there were only nineteen spaces left for second years and first years (assuming that all of the fourth and third years who wanted the class already registered for it). Considering how many second years there are in total, and how many of them would probably want to take Japanese, that means that there's literally a 0% chance of a first year getting into the course (since registration starts from 4th years and follows in descending order)! But it's a first year course, supposedly!! With things the way they are, why even bother offering a 400-series Japanese course when anyone who wants to finish university in four years won't be able to take it? The highest you could ever go would be 300-series, assuming you even managed to get into the course in second year!!
Anyway, that's why I think the university administration is stupid. They turn away SO many students from a course, but instead of increasing the number of lecture sections to enable more students to get in, they reduce it! BAKA!!
Oh, and as for the rest of the schedule, I didn't get into any of the other EAS (East Asian Studies) classes that I wanted, and my schedule is far from ideal--one class on Monday, and one on Wednesday, and a big gap between my morning and night classes on Tuesdays--but at least it works, and it allows me to deal with a whole bunch of my major program requirements.
I don't know how I'm going to complete my degree when all of the classes I want to take have conflicting times--between EAS and ENG courses, and even just within EAS and ENG courses--but I guess I'll deal with that when I get to it. Heeheehee. At least this coming school year I'll have an excuse to watch anime: I'll be practicing my Japanese!! ^_~
