Bad Combination

Me + Boredom + Good Weather + 20% Off Regular-Priced Books = No Studying

Now that I don't have classes to worry about, my brain has switched to "relax" mode, and that is an extremely bad thing. Actually, I'm not particularly worried about my English, or East Asian History, or even my Grammar class, it's just my European History class that has me in a panic. Over six hundred years of history to remember for one three hour exam!! Egad, what was I thinking when I signed up for this course?! I mean, I've learned a lot, yes, but I've probably forgotten even more! This is full-blown panic mode here, folks!!

Fortunately, or unfortunately for my marks and later sanity, this panic doesn't really translate into any sort of action. Rather than inciting me to study, worry has the most perverse effect of making me even lazier. It's like I just totally shut down to avoid driving myself mad with worry.

Anyway, back to my initial equation, if you don't understand it, allow me to explain: since I didn't need to prepare for classes, since the weather was nice--no need for a jacket--and since Chapters/Indigo is running a Lunchtime Loyalty program (20% off regular-priced books on Wednesdays between 12 and 2pm) this month, I walked to a nearby Indigo and bought four books. So now I have lots of material available for leisure reading, but I also have a lot of preparation that needs to be done for exams--can you guess which one I'd choose to do first? Bingo.

Taking the proverbial leaf from my friend's book (or web journal, in this case), here's my book pile list, i.e. the books that I bought today:

-Seasons of Storms by Susanna Kearsley
-Finding Home an anthology of works by Linda Howard, Elizabeth Lowell and Kasey Michaels
-The Simarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien
-No Great Mischief by Alistair MacLeod

Right now I'm about a third of the way through Seasons of Storms and I'm enjoying it thoroughly. Susanna Kearsley is an excellent author, and the fact that she's Canadian makes me that much happier to be reading her works. I think that this is the first new book of hers to come out since I started reading her works in grade ten or eleven, so about two or three years. It was definitely worth the wait.

Speaking of waiting, I am so impatient for the next Harry Potter book to come out! I've already read the first four books about four times each, so it'll be nice to get something new to provide my Harry Potter fix. =Þ

Oh, and changing topics yet again, I also added some books to my library hold list as a result of my trip to Indigo, but I "prudently" made the holds inactive so that I wouldn't be able to pick up the holds during the exam period and thus have a temptation to avoid studying. Of course that was totally ridiculous considering that I just bought four books so I'm not likely to get a whole lot of studying anyway, but I like to think that I'm making efforts to ensure that I actually study.

Well, that's enough of my ramblings (and they really were "ramble-y" today) for now!

Plug of the Day: Harry Potter: Wizard Challenge: This is a neat quiz that Scholastic has put together by taking question submissions from fans. It's quite difficult; my highest score so far is 48 in a row. Oh, and one warning, because the questions and answers are submitted by fans, not all of the answers are accurate. The question about Ron's broom, for example, is quite wrong, considering that he actually has a "Shooting Star." Still, it's an amazingly entertaining game for HP fans--I've spent hours trying to break my best records. ^_^ Enjoy!
