Ever since reading week I've been very aware of the fact that my first year of university is almost finished. This knowledge is not a good thing. What is it about knowing that you're almost done that immediately saps your motivation to work? Why does having the end in sight make me feel like I should stop attending class, forget about any homework and just spend all my time at the computer or reading?
Then again, I haven't exactly been the most motivated student this year in any case. I think I managed to keep up with all of my readings and assignments for about the first week of school; the only assignment I ever started more than two days before a deadline was my first East Asian History paper, after which it became all about the all-nighters. Come to think of it, I haven't been a really diligent student since hgh school, grade ten. Yup, in grade ten I actually studied for tests and worked ahead on projects, but it's all been downhill since then.
Really, it's rather strange because unlike grade eleven and twelve, when I just didn't care, I've been enjoying learning a lot since I started university. In the first month I never felt even the slightest bit sleepy during class and usually left lectures feeling totally enlightened. So yes, it is quite odd that my interest in the course material hasn't translated into an even remotely decent work ethic. Sad to say, but I think I'll probably need to get a "C" on something before I snap out of this lazy funk. I mean, I may feel guilty for doing so little work, but it hasn't majorly affected my grade yet so I don't have any incentive to change. Hopefully the wake up call won't be my exams since all of them are worth at least 35% of my final marks, if not more. ^^;; Thank goodness university ends so much earlier than high school!
