Most people would agree that it's not the wisest idea to leave the research for a history research essay (worth 25% of the final mark) until five days before the deadline, and the actual writing of said essay until two days before the due date; yet there are surprising benefits to be reaped from such ill-advised acts of procrastination.
The old saying about needing opposites is true; just as good cannot be good without evil, play is never so rewarding as when it follows really hard work. Moderation and balance--work hard, play hard--are all well and good as ideals to maintain health and sanity, but working harder and playing harder adds sweetness to the latter because the days of work were so brutal that the ability to do nothing gains new depths of meaning. Gone are the fatigue and desperation of only hours ago, replaced by newfound energy and a sense of total contentment; all the world is smiling and you are free; now is a beautiful time because there is no work to be done. If you can survive those few brutal days of no sleep and neverending work, the period following will feel like a time of rebirth and incomparable joy.
