I recently started rewatching Trigun with my brother, and he pointed out something that should have been obvious to me on my first viewing (of Trigun): Trigun is really similar to Rurouni Kenshin. Yeah, I know, to those of you who have seen both series, this is probably a major statement of the obvious, a big "no duh" so to speak, but I, a huge fan of both series completely missed it.
*WARNING*: The following may contain spoilers
Anyway, as the title of this post suggests, both stories feature ultra-cool killers who usually act like cute goofballs. Vash and Kenshin both vowed not to kill. In Trigun, it takes Meryl a lot longer to recognize Vash as the Humanoid Typhoon than it took for Kaoru to recognize Kenshin as the Hitokiri Battousai, but both Meryl and Kaoru were equally shocked when they came face to face with the coldblooded killing ability hidden behind the smiling facades of, respectively, Vash and Kenshin. They were so unprepared to accept the duality of Vash and Kenshin's natures that when each of them were told "Sayonara," literally or figuratively, they obeyed, at least for a while and did not try to follow. The list of similarities goes on and on...
What this means, I guess, is that I'm really quite predictable in my tastes. Give me any sort of story with an eminently likeable, slightly goofy hero who hates to kill, throw in a dark past and/or unsuspected master fighting abilities for contrast and I'll be hooked. ^_^
P.S. - On a totally unrelated note, I'd like to apologize for my lack of updates on the weekend and yesterday (Tuesday). I was pretty much out or doing something all day Saturday and Sunday and when I tried to update yesterday blogger didn't seem to be working and I couldn't be bothered to keep trying. ^^;; Gomen! I really am trying to update daily!
